According to research, low-level light therapy (LLLT) penetrates deep into the scalp, induces vasodilation (widens blood vessels), enhances blood flow to the scalp, increases the transportation of nutrients to hair follicles, and improves skin blood flow [1-3]. It also promotes wound healing and lessens inflammation in an irritated scalp [4].
Hair health, growth, and hair loss [1-3]; Targets skin (scalp) irritation [4]
LLLT penetrates hair follicles at a depth of 3-5 mm under the scalp. This form of irradiation also stimulates epidermal stem cells in hair follicle bulges. In addition, LLLT heightens mitochondrial activity, which causes these cells to convert the light energy into chemical energy that becomes an energy source for hair cells. This process promotes the growth of healthy hair [1]. The wavelength range that has been clinically proven to promote hair growth is 600 to nm 650 nm [1]. Wavelengths of 630 nm or higher have been shown to accelerate wound healing in irritated skin (scalp) [4].
