Bacteria and other microorganisms as well as chlorine by-products can pile up on the inside of an unfiltered shower head [1, 2]. Even trace amounts of chlorine can lead to dry skin, an irritated scalp, damaged hair follicles, signs of premature aging (e.g., wrinkles), and altered immune system function [1-4].

Chlorinated water can also disrupt immune system function, trigger free radical production in the body, induce cell damage, and result in cancerous changes [1-4].
