Jane Iredale is really one of the first when it comes to the concept of clean beauty." Jane Iredale saw first-hand how the typical makeup you buy at the stores could negatively affect your skin health and set out to make a change.
As a casting director and producer, Jane worked closely with actors and helped create a cleaner makeup knowing that they often struggled with heavy makeup and the detrimental effects of it.

Jane started formulating a nourishing Loose Mineral Powder which was immediately loved by skin professionals. Dermatologists and plastics surgeons praised its ability to soothe, cover and protect, and consumers loved that it didn't feel like the typical makeup. Free of irritants and, perhaps more importantly, carefully crafted with skin-boosting ingredients, Jane Iredale's line is still popular today.

Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide help lessen skin irritation from UVA and UVB exposure [1, 2]. Zinc oxide is frequently added to sunscreen as an inorganic sun blocker [2]. A zinc-deficiency is associated with oxidative stress-induced aging due to free radicals and oxygen reactive species, which are skin-damaging particles that zinc targets [3, 4]. Pomegranate and pine bark are rich sources of antioxidants that scavenge free radicals and support healthy inflammatory responses [5, 6].
Skin tone enhancement [1-4]; Skin hydration [1, 2]; Skin health [1-6]; Sun block [1, 2]
Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide block UVA/UVB rays by reflecting and scattering them. In doing so, these compounds lower the occurrence of sunburn and reinforce rapid skin cell rejuvenation [1, 2]. Zinc oxide is frequently added to sunscreens due to its ability to target free radicals. This blocks harmful invaders from damaging skin cells and lipids (healthy fats) that play a natural role in protecting the skin from UV exposure or skin irritants (e.g., pollution) [2]. Zinc oxide is also linked to anti-aging because it enhances the activity of collagen-producing skin cells [3]. Furthermore, zinc oxide creates a thin layer on the skin that blocks UV light and in doing so, hinders UV rays from penetrating the skin [4]. The structure of zinc oxide helps it mix easily with other topical agents and zinc does not absorb deeply into the skin [4]. This lowers the occurrence of skin irritation and is one of the main reasons it is added to sunscreen for individuals with sensitive skin. These properties make zinc oxide a strong UV-blocking shield. Pomegranate and pine bark extracts have antioxidant properties that target free radicals and other substances that are linked to skin issues [5, 6]. Pine bark extract helps target DNA damage, oxidative stress, and abnormal inflammatory responses that contribute to aging skin [6].
